The BCS circus reached its apex this weekend, with losses by number 1 and 2 leaving us with a team that didn't have to play a game on the final weekend of the season and a team with 2 losses on the season playing for the championship. This was quite fitting for the chaotic regular season we just finished watching. Let's start the BCS rundown with a look at the National Championship game, and move down the line from there.

As alluded to, we'll have the 11-1 Ohio State Buckeyes taking on the 11-2 LSU Tigers. In looking at what will occur in this game, one of the first things to keep in mind is the fact that this might as well be a home game for the Tigers. Playing in the Superdome in New Orleans is a decided advantage for the Tigers. Another factor is the schedules of this two teams. When you take a look at the schedules of these two teams, you'll see a undeniably more difficult schedule for the LSU Tigers. In many cases, a more difficult schedule makes you a better team in the long run. Being battle tested week in and week out has a tendency to bring a team together. Now don't get me wrong, Ohio State is a very good team. They have a balanced offensive attack behind Todd Boeckman throwing the ball and Chris Wells running it, they have the ability to put points on the board. In my opinion, however, LSU is such a dynamic team, with Matt Flynn spreading the ball around to a very talented group of receivers, and a group of running backs that would make most NFL teams drool, including Jacob Hester, Keiland Williams, and Trindon Holliday. I see just too much firepower on this LSU team.

Prediction: LSU wins, 35-20

Moving on to the Rose Bowl, we get the traditional Pac-10 Vs. Big Ten matchup with USC at 10-2 taking on Illinois at 9-3. No offense meant to any Illinois fans out there, but this one could get ugly. Coming into the year, USC was one of the top two teams in the country along with LSU. They lost two games largely because of the injury bug. This team has gotten healthy again, and they could play with anyone in the nation. Illinois did prove that they can play with the big boys of college football by beating Ohio State, so they can't be counted out of this game, but USC has gradually gotten better throughout the season and they have just begun to hit their stride. John David Booty is a big time quarterback, and I foresee him having a big game against this Illinois team. Juice Williams, the QB for Illinois, is an incredible talent to have on the field, and with a player like that, your team is never truly out of a game, but in the end, I think Illinois is still just a notch below USC in terms of overall talent level, and that's what will decide this game. On a quick side note, watch out for this Illinois team next year. This is a very young team that should mature into a dangerous team for next year.

Prediction: USC wins, 42-14

In the Fiesta Bowl, we see two teams that had an awful lot to do with the BCS chaos we saw this weekend. We have the 11-2 Oklahoma Sooners taking on the 10-2 West Virginia Mountaineers. Both of these teams have something to prove in this game, but for very different reasons. West Virginia had the BCS Championship Game in it's grasp and let it slip away in it's shocking loss to Pittsburgh, and they undoubtedly want to prove that game was a fluke. Oklahoma surely believes they should be in that same championship game after a convincing win over Missouri, who was Number 1 at the time. Both of these teams are explosive, with playmakers all over the field. West Virginia has Pat White, who is equally lethal with his arm or his legs, as well as both Steve Slaton and Noel Devine who can break a game-changing run at any moment. On the other side, you've got Oklahoma with freshman sensation Sam Bradford throwing the ball to Juaquin Iglesias and Malcolm Kelly, or handing it off to either Allen Patrick, DeMarco Murray, or Chris Brown. Both of these teams lost their National Title hopes in part due to injuries to their QB's. Bradford was held out of OU's loss to Texas Tech because of a concussion the previous week, and WV didn't have Pat White for a large part of their game against Pittsburgh, and neither team was the same without their leader. I expect this to be a very good game, fitting the old cliché of a Heavyweight Fight, with each team delivering blows. Whichever team can come up with a big play at the right time is likely to come out on top in this one.

Prediction: OU wins, 24-21

In the Sugar Bowl we get to watch two teams that feel they don't get the respect they deserve from the BCS system. Hawaii at 12-0 takes on Georgia at 10-2. Georgia feels they were overlooked for the BCS Title game, Hawaii feels the are overlooked period. Georgia has to go into this game knowing the need to keep the Hawaii offense on the sideline as much as possible. Georgia is one of the hottest teams going right now, being 6-0 in their last 6 games. Georgia looks like the right type of team to beat up on a relatively untested Hawaii team. They have a QB in Matthew Stafford who doesn't make a lot of mistakes and generally won't lose the game on a bad decision, and a running back tandem in Knowshon Moreno and Thomas Brown who can pound the ball to run the clock. All that being said, don't assume that because you may not have seen Hawaii, that they aren't a really good football team. This is a team that does indeed get overlooked a lot because of the lack of national exposure. Hawaii has a Heisman candidate at QB in Colt Brennan who has more talent around him at WR than any other team out there. With three 1,000 yard receivers, this is a team that can score and score in a hurry. With Davonne Bess, Ryan Grice-Mullen, and Jason Rivers, they have three legitimate top-tier receiving threats that you have to account for on every single play. What these receivers do better than any other group in the country is get yards after the catch. Georgia has to swarm tackle to avoid letting a couple of big plays decide this game against them.

Prediction: Hawaii wins, 35-21

In the Orange Bowl, Virginia Tech at 11-2 takes on Kansas at 11-1. Kansas has surprised people all season long on their way to a BCS bowl game, while the Hokies where a fourth quarter meltdown against Boston College in their first meeting away from playing in the Championship game. Kansas is a team full of athletes. This team, no matter how much film study a team does coming into a game against them, will surprise you with how fast they are and how high they jump to come down with the ball. With all that talent, this team goes as Todd Reesing goes. When Todd Reesing is good, this team is awfully difficult to beat. When he has an off game, this team can be beaten. Which is where I believe this game will be won. For Virginia Tech, no player is going to win this game. If they win this game, it's because of the man standing on the sideline, Frank Beamer. Beamer has a way of getting the absolute most out of his teams. In this game, he's going to have to find a way to get to Reesing and knock him off of his game. If Virginia Tech can get Kansas out of rhythm, that will allow the two headed QB system of the Hokies to do it's job. In the Drop back passing Sean Glennon and the more mobile Tyrod Taylor, VT has the ability to confuse defenses and make enough game changing plays to come away with a victory. In the end, though, even Hokies fans have to admit this game being won or lost won't have that much to do with it's offense. It will be about whether or not they can slow down the Kansas Offense, and if they can come up with one of it's patented game changing Special Teams plays. I have a definite feeling this one may come down to a kick at the end. If that's the case, I'll take my chances with Virginia Tech.

Prediction: Virginia Tech wins, 14-13

In der EB-1900-Reihe sind insgesamt fünf Geräte vertreten. Dabei handelt es sich um den Espon EB-1925W und den Epson EB-1920W mit einer WXGA-Auflösung von 1.280 x 800 Pixeln und 4.000 ANSI-Lumen, um den Epson EB-1900 und den Epson EB-1910 mit einer XGA-Auflösung von 1.024 x 768 Pixeln und 4.000 ANSI-Lumen sowie um den Epson EB-1830 mit gleicher Auflösung aber nur 3.500 ANSI-Lumen.

Die Geräte verfügen über ein 1,6faches Zoomobjektiv, welches es ermöglicht die Bilddiagonale ohne Verschieben des Gerätes zu verändern. Außerdem ist ein 10 Watt-Lautsprecher integriert, der den Anschluss zusätzlicher Boxen überflüssig macht.

Die Geräte Epson EB-1925W und Epson EB-1915 verfügen außerdem über einen Autofokus, LAN und eine vertikale sowie horizontale Trapezkorrektur. Der Anschluss eine PCs wird überflüssig, da die Präsentationen über den USB-Anschluss direkt vom USB-Stick abgespielt werden können. Nur wenn man bis zu vier Geräte gleichzeitig steuern möchte, sollte ein PC angeschlossen werden.

Je nach Modell und Ausführung stehen verschiedene Anschlüsse wie HDMI-, VGA-, S-Video- Anschlüsse sowie Composite-Videoausgänge zur Verfügung.

Sechs neue Energieeffiziente Beamer von Canon

Heute stellt Canon 6 Neue LV-Projektoren vor.  Die Neuen Beamer kosten zwischen 799 und 1199 Euro.  Die Projektoren bieten verschiedene Auflösungen. Die beiden Beamer Canon LV- 8310 und Canon LV-8215 bietet eine WXGA-Auflösung mit 1.280 x 800 Bildpunkten, die Beamer aus der 7000er Reihe eine XGA-Auflösung.

Der Canon LV-8310 erreicht eine Lichtleistung von 3.000 Lumen, der Canon LV-8215 von 2.600 Lumen.  Die Lichtleistung der Geräte Canon LV-7000 Serie weichen je Gerät voneinander ab. Der Canon LV-7280 wird mit 2.200 Lumen, der Canon LV-7285 mit 2.600 Lumen, der Canon LV-7380 mit 3.000 Lumen und der Canon LV-7385 mit 3.500 Lumen angegeben.  Alle neu vorgestellten Geräte haben einen Kontrast von 500:1. Die Modelle 7280 und 7285 erreichen mit dem Auto-Iris-Modus maximale Kontrastwerte von 2.000:1.    MSI hat sich einen Beamer geschnappt und ihm die Innereien eines PCs implantiert. Heraus kommt der Projector PC. Steck eine Tastatur und eine Maus an, und schon kannst du deine Excel-Tabellen an die Wand schmeißen.

   An Anschlüssen hat der Beamer einen HDMI-Ausgang, LAN, USB, einen 3,5mm-Kopfhöreranschluss, einen Mikrofon-Eingang und sogar einen DVD-Slot auf der Vorderseite. In ihm steckt ein Nvidia-Ion-Grafik-Chip und ein Intel-Atom-Prozessor. Der MSI-Beamer kann 1080p-Video auf eine 60 Zoll große Fläche projizieren. Der Kontrast liegt bei 1000:1, die Lampe bringt 100 Lumen Helligkeit. MSI erklärt diese durchschnittlichen Werte damit, dass das Gerät irgendwo zwischen einem Pico-Beamer und einem Heimgerät angesiedelt ist.

   Der Projector PC ist momentan noch ein Prototyp, doch MSI ist zuversichtlich, dass ein solches Gerät im dritten Quartal auf den Markt kommen könnte. Wieso erinnert mich MSIs Beamer-PC an die DRDs, über die Crichton dauernd in Farscape gestolpert ist? Oder um mal auf der Erde zu bleiben: Noch ein paar Rollen, und der Beamer saugt wahrscheinlich auch deine Wohnung. [Jacqueline Pohl]

   Kein Full HD, geringe Anschlussmöglichkeiten, schwacher Kontrast und eine Lichtstärke von maximal 10 Lumen sind nicht gerade Spezifikation, für die Heimkinofans sich von ihrer Couch erheben würden. Doch kaum eine Geräteklasse hat auf der letzten IFA soviel Aufsehen erregt wie die Präsentation der neuen Mini-Beamer-Generation im Taschenformat. Bereits seit einigen Jahren werben verschiedene Produzenten mit Prototypen dieser winzigen Projektoren – für den Endanwender bis dahin ohne Konsequenz. Zwar haben viele Hersteller die Serienreife ihrer Geräte beteuert, doch im Handel angekommen ist ein Großteil von ihnen noch nicht.

   Zumindest einige aber haben den Durchbruch zur Massenproduktion endlich geschafft. Mit dem Verkauf erster Modelle wird sich zudem das Interesse an Konkurrenzprodukten und die Innovation möglicher Einsatzgebiete merklich erhöhen. Zu den Interessenten gehören all jene, denen selbst Gerätedisplays mit durchschnittlich 14 Zoll Bildschirmdiagonale keine optimale Größe bieten, um ihre Medien auch unterwegs und ohne großen Aufwand ansprechend zu präsentieren. Menschen im Außendienstverkauf, aber natürlich auch Privatanwender wie Hobbyfotografen sind als Zielgruppe ausgemacht. Welche Modelle bereits im Handel erhältlich sind, und was uns in den nächsten Monaten an interessanten Modellen erwartet, haben wir in dieser Kaufberatung kurz zusammengefasst.

   Die Avantgarde: Aipteks V-10

   Allen voran der PocketCinema V10 von Aiptek. Der Taschenbeamer ist mit 125 x 55 x 23 Millimetern kaum größer als ein ausgewachsenes Mobiltelefon und wirft dennoch ein Bild mit bis zu 50 Zoll Diagonale an die Wand. Mit Daten gefüttert wird der 155 Gramm schwere Beamer mittels Speicherkartenslot für die Standards SD, SDHC und MS Pro, der interne Speicher von 1 Gigabyte lässt sich auch über den USB-Anschluss befüllen. Ein AV-Eingang ermöglicht zudem die Verbindung mit einem Notebook oder Camcorder.

   Der kleine über USB oder Netzteil ladbare Akku sorgt mit 1600 Milliampere gut 60 Minuten lang für Licht, um Videos der Formate MPEG-4, AVI, ASF und H.264 darzustellen. Aber auch JPEGs oder Musik in Form von MP3s spielt der PocketCinema V10. Zwei kleine Stereolautsprecher mit 0,5 Watt Leistung machen den Beamer multimedial. Die Auflösung von 640 x 480 Pixeln fällt im Vergleich zu anderen Winzlingen relativ groß aus und entspricht VGA. Der maximale Projektionsabstand liegt bei 1,8 Metern. Knapp 300 Euro werden mindestens für den kleinen Beamer samt Fernbedienung von Aiptek verlangt.

   Die Alternativen: Easypix PX50 und Optoma Pico Pocket-Projektor

   Als Alternative bietet sich das Modell PX50 von Easypix an. Es ist mit dem Gerät von Aiptek nahezu identisch, lediglich das Bedienfeld und die fehlenden Schallöffnungen der Lautsprecher unterscheiden den Mini von der Konkurrenz. Auch der Preis bewegt sich in ähnlichem Rahmen. In die gleiche Preiskategorie fällt außerdem der Pico Pocket Projector von Optoma, ein Beamer, anders als die Modelle von Aiptek und Easypix, nicht mit LCOS von 3M, sondern DLP von Texas Instruments. Das Licht wird also nicht mittels LED gegen ein winziges Display gestrahlt, sondern über eine Matrix mikroskopisch kleiner Spiegel gelenkt.

   Optomas Taschenprojektor ist mit 103 x 50 x 15 Millimetern und einem Gewicht von 115 Gramm etwas handlicher als die Konkurrenz und soll dennoch Bilder von 60 Zoll in der Diagonale liefern – was bei einer Auflösung von gerade mal 320 x 240 Pixeln nicht wirklich zu empfehlen ist. Zudem ist die Bildgröße einem relativ weiten Projektionsabstand von bis zu 2,6 Metern geschuldet. Je größer die Entfernung desto geringer aber auch die Lichtstärke der höchstens 10 Lumen hellen Projektion.

   Wie bei ausgewachsenen Projektoren üblich, geben die Hersteller auch bei ihren Kleinstgeräten die Lampenlebensdauer an. Aufgrund der energieeffizienten LED-Technik liegt diese mit über 20.000 Stunden Betriebsdauer deutlich höher als bei herkömmlichen Projektoren. Allerdings werden sie über die Zeit stetig dunkler. Da die LEDs kaum Hitze entwickeln, fällt natürlich auch der Lüfter und damit die nervtötende Geräuschkulisse weg. So hat auch Optoma nur einen 0,5 Watt Monolautsprecher in seinem Pico Pocket Projector verbaut. Dafür liegt die Akkulaufzeit mit 90 Minuten ein Drittel länger als beim Beamer von Aiptek.

   Der Neue: 3M MPro110

   Frisch auf dem Markt ist der Mini-Beamer MPro110 von 3M, dabei sah es noch letzte Woche so aus, als würde der Verkaufstart für das 115 x 50 x 22 Millimeter große Kästchen erneut verschoben. Der Beamer beherbergt einen LCOS-Display, der wie der PocketCinema V10 volle VGA-Auflösung mit einer maximalen Bilddiagonale von 50 Zoll an die Wand projiziert. Für spontane Meetings oder Kundengespräche vollkommen ausreichend, sofern die Möglichkeit der Verdunkelung besteht.

   Der Adapter für ein kleines Stativ macht den Projektor flexibel in der Aufstellung, die Schärfe wird wie immer manuell an einem kleinen Rädchen neben der Linse eingestellt. Außer einem Videoeingang zum Anschluss von Handy, Kamera oder iPod besitzt der Mpro110 zudem einen vollwertigen VGA-Eingang. Inklusive aller Anschlusskabel verlangt 3M 350 Euro dafür.

   Demnächst in Ihrer Westentasche: Toshiba Mobile LED-Projector, Foxconn und Fuchitek

   Ähnliche Leistungsdaten wie beim Gerät von Optoma gibt auch Toshiba für seinen Mobile LED-Projector an. Im Kern ist ebenfalls die DLP-Pico-Technik von Texas Instruments implementiert. Er soll mit 100 Gramm sogar noch leichter und mit 100 x 45 x 17 Millimetern auch etwas kleiner als seine Brüder sein. Das Problem: Toshiba plant eine Markteinführung erst zum zweiten Quartal 2009. An den Spezifikationen kann sich somit bis dahin noch einiges ändern.

   Auch Foxconn plant zu diesem Zeitpunkt mit einem Pico Projector auf den Markt zu kommen. Einen ersten Prototyp hat die Firma bereits auf der Computex vorgestellt. Das extrem kleine Gehäuse von 55 x 46 x 26 Millimetern und mit einem Gewicht von 65 Gramm beherbergt wie zu erwarten einen DLP-Projektor von Texas Instruments, der allerdings Bilder mit 854 x 480 Pixeln auflösen soll.

   Gleich zwei Pico Projectors hat das taiwanische Unternehmen Fuchitek angekündigt. Während der PEP01 die Standardmaße der Konkurrenz kopiert, ist der PMP-01 mit 40 x 57 x 58 Millimetern etwas eigenwilliger im Design. Beide bieten jedoch eine brauchbare Bildqualität von 640 x 480 Pixeln, die geringe Lebensdauer des Akkus von gerade einmal 40 Minuten mag auf die Ehrlichkeit der PR-Abteilung zurückzuführen sein. Ein konkretes Datum für die Markteinführung konnte die Firma auch auf Anfrage seitens Idealo nicht nennen.

   Auch beim QingBar MP101 von Honlai konnte kein genauer Termin für die Veröffentlichung genannt werden. Dabei ist das 76 x 102 x 54 Millimeter große Mini Projector Dock exklusiv für die Modeaccessoires wie iPhone und iPod gemacht und überrascht mit einer Projektionsgröße von 50 bis 150 Zentimetern und einer Helligkeit zwischen 10 und 15 Lumen. Die Auflösung liegt bei für diese Geräteklasse typischen 640 x 480 Pixeln.

   Wer mit dem für Hosentaschen etwas inkompatiblen Gehäusemaß von 90 x 44 x 80 Millimetern keine Probleme hat, für den empfiehlt sich abschließend der Pocket-LED-Beamer von Divistar. Der 200 Gramm schwere Projektor auf Basis der LCOS-Technologie bringt Bilder mit VGA-Auflösung und den üblichen Helligkeits- und Kontrastwerten an die Wand. Als Schnittstellen stehen ein VGA-Anschluss zur Kopplung mit dem Notebook sowie ein AV-Eingang für DVD-Player, Camcorder oder Spielkonsole zur Verfügung. Betrieben wird der Projektor über ein herkömmliches Netzkabel und ist damit leider nicht so mobil wie Geräte mit integriertem Akku. Dafür ist das Modell bereits unter 200 Euro im Handel zu haben.

   Fazit: Drei Hersteller und viele Modelle

   Betrachtet man die derzeit angebotenen Pico-Beamer, so fällt die große Ähnlichkeit hinsichtlich der Spezifikationen auf. Da im Wesentlichen nur drei Hersteller als Zulieferer für die interne Hardware fungieren, sind die Unterschiede in den Leistungsdaten eher gering. Das vereinfacht die Kaufentscheidung allerdings beträchtlich und legt den Fokus auf sekundäre Faktoren wie Sympathie und Preis. Mit zunehmenden Angebot könnte es jedoch bald zu einer Welle unterschiedlichster Geräte kommen, die sich im nächsten Jahr zu einem echten Trend auswächst, vergleichbar mit dem der Netbooks in diesem Jahr. Und das zu Recht, denn praktisch sind die Taschen-Projektoren auf jeden Fall.
