Youth soccer is a wonderful way for your child to exercise, learn fundamental soccer skills, learn to listen and take turns, gain confidence, make friends and have fun. Plus, what could be cuter than a four year old in a soccer uniform?
Youth soccer teams are everywhere. Churches, community centers, schools and other organizations sponsor soccer leagues for children as young as three years old. Do not expect a three year old to learn advanced dribbling skills, but these leagues are a great way to introduce soccer to young children.
One key to having a successful soccer season is having appropriate parental involvement, emphasizing fun and following the coach's suggestions. Try to avoid shouting out from the sideline and allow the coach to instruct the players. Of course, if little Sally is running in the wrong direction, feel free to lovingly suggest to her that she go towards the correct goal. (Moments like make great video!)
The youth soccer leagues for the younger players often have rules that are more relaxed than grade-school teams. For instance, often they play without a goalie and with three players per team on the field at a time. Out of bounds is typically called but there is usually no such thing as off-sides at this very young age. Be sure to check your league's rulebook for specifics. These young players have a lot to learn and this helps them start out on the right foot, so to speak.
Tips for You
First and foremost, have fun. Youth soccer, especially in this very young age-group, is meant to be fun for the children as well as the parents. If you find yourself feeling stressed that your child is not performing well, take a deep breath and remember this basic principle. Your child is going to learn more about the fundamentals of soccer by practicing and playing.
Praise your child. It is important to encourage your child, not just when he or she scores a goal. Praise your child for listening, staying in line during practice, kicking the ball in the right direction, trying his or her best and learning new skills. If you try, you will find a lot to praise.
Let the Coach “do the coaching” during practice or games. The coach is trying to do the best she or he can to teach the fundamentals of soccer to the children, while diverting attention away from airplanes flying overhead and dandelions growing on the practice field. While it is helpful to urge your child to pay attention, it is not helpful to shout out instructions from the sideline. The children need to be taught to respect the coach and understand the coach is running the practice.
Make plans to be at practice. Granted, the children playing in the younger leagues are very young but practices are still important. Now, I do not mean to suggest that they need to be run like a Major League Soccer practice, but the parents should consider showing up at practice a priority. During the first few practices, players will learn important details such as to never touch the soccer ball with hands, and to always kick towards a certain goal. Plus, my children had just as much fun if not more at practice as they did during the actual game.
Avoid comparing your child especially in front of him or her Children, just like adults, have different strengths and weaknesses. For young children, sports are just one part of that “big world” out there. We cannot expect our children to perform exactly the same or better as their peers. There are many ways a soccer player can “help” the team other than scoring. Remember, “children have ears.” A child who constantly hears criticism or is labeled a “bad” player will lose confidence and soccer will no longer be fun for them. Again, having “fun” is the main “goal” in soccer.
Focus on the positive. Avoid sighing, grunting or giving negative comments during soccer practice or soccer games. Your child will pick up on your negativity. When you praise your child before offering constructive criticism, it is often better received.
Remind your child we all make mistakes. Children can learn from an early age that it is “ok” to make a mistake. We learn from our mistakes and none of us are immune from them. Encourage your child to just keep trying and not to become angry.
Correct children in a positive manner. Your primary job as a soccer-parent is to support and encourage your child. Children respond better to positive instruction than negative. If your child is not paying attention, consider saying, “you are doing such a great job when you kick the ball and we are so proud of you. Be sure to pay attention when the whistle blows and do what your coach says.”
Avoid conflict with other parents. By all means, act respectful towards other parents. Enough said.
Tips for your children
Listen to the coach Before each practice or game, remind your child to listen to the coach and follow his or her direction.
Learn the concept of “no hands.” Hands down, so to speak, this is one of the toughest lessons for the very young soccer player. The coach often will have tips and tricks on ways for the children to remember this rule. Parents can help by reminding the children and making it fun. Consider using a favorite stuffed animal or doll and a small ball to role-play at home. It is also helpful and fun for your young player to watch children who are a little older play a game.
Learn basic dribbling. When our son was very young, he had a hard time remembering that dribbling does not mean kicking the ball as hard as he can. Children can practice dribbling (frequent short kicks) at home. Explain to your child why it is important to dribble (to keep control of the ball and move it towards the goal, perhaps passing it to another player.)
Passing is an important skill to learn, eventually. Often young children need to learn the basics before they learn how to pass. However, teaching them “why” and “how” to pass will help them to learn this skill.
Practice is essential. As with any new skill or sport, practice will help your child gain confidence and new skills. Make it fun! In addition to regular team practices, play with your child and let him or her practice new skills.
Team spirit is important. Teach your children that they are not in competition with other teammates. They should encourage other players and praise their accomplishments. Good sportsmanship and team spirit are valuable lessons to be taught.
In my opinion, it is also important to teach children about winning and losing. Although many preschool soccer leagues do not keep score, one day teams will either win or lose. Teach your children that it is ok to do their best and try to win, but it is ok to lose as well. Soccer is not only about winning or losing but eventually the score will be kept. Players should play to have fun as well. It is important to congratulate other teammates as well as the opposing team after the game.
There is so much to learn to be successful in competitive soccer and there will be plenty of time to learn advanced skills later. Preschool soccer leagues provide an opportunity to introduce soccer to young children, teach basic skills and help instill confidence. Again, the main “goal” is to have fun.

David Beckham is “exhausted” because his wife Victoria is demanding sex five times a day.
The fashion designer and former Spice Girls singer is reportedly so desperate to get pregnant, she is insisting they get intimate as much as possible.
David has been spending much more time at the couple’s Los Angeles home recently, after an Achilles tendon injury ruled him out of any soccer games in the near future. Victoria is making the most of their increased time together by drawing up a “sex timetable”, showing the best times to conceive their fourth child. David is currently resting while Victoria attends business meetings in London, but is already said to be “bracing himself” for his wife’s return next week.
“David's knackered and was relieved to get a break,” a source told British newspaper The Sun. “He's not complaining. But with all the strapping on his foot just getting about is hard enough, let alone bedroom gymnastics five times a day.
“Vic is desperate to get pregnant and has a timetable for sex. From what David's said it basically means he must produce the goods whenever it's possible and be on continuous standby. He's exhausted and is just trying to get his energy back for Victoria's return.”
Victoria, 35, and 34-year-old David already have three sons, Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, seven, and five-year-old Cruz.
They have previously expressed their desire for a daughter, and are believed to be hoping their next child will be a girl.
David and Victoria Beckham are having sex five times a day in a bid to have another baby.
The former Spice Girl – who has three sons with the soccer star – is desperate for a daughter and has devised a “timetable” to allow them to get intimate as often as possible.
The couple apparently started their new sex regime during an Easter holiday in the Caribbean but have now briefly parted ways as David recovers from a ruptured Achilles tendon in Los Angeles and Victoria is in London for work.
A family friend told The Sun newspaper: “David was relieved to get a break. He’s not complaining. But with all the strapping on his foot just getting about is hard enough, let alone bedroom gymnastics five times a day. Vic is desperate to get pregnant and has a timetable for sex.”
David, 34, is apparently “exhausted” from his 35-year-old spouse’s demands and is trying to recuperate quickly before they reunite on Monday (12.04.10).
The friend added: “From what David’s said it basically means he must be on continuous standby. He’s exhausted and is just trying to get his energy back for Victoria’s return.”
The couple were expected to start trying for a baby after this summer’s World Cup soccer tournament but have decided to extend their brood earlier now David has been ruled out of the England squad because of his injury.

Madrid is the capital and largest city in Spain. This part of the world has been occupied since before history was even written down! With such a long and rich history, Madrid is one of the most diverse and cultural cities in the world. Noted for its amazing architecture and wealth of museums as well as a great night life, Madrid is a place that you definitely want to add to your list. Still, there are so many things about the city that most tourists miss. This list of ten non-touristy spots will fill you in on the secrets of Madrid.
1. Buen Retiro Park – This magnificent 350 acre park is located at the edge of the city center, near the Prado Museum. The park is an excellent place to visit in order to see how real Spanish people relax in the sun. You can rent a boat to explore the lake, check out some of the many exhibitions of the area, or just play a pickup soccer game with some of the locals. There is a lot to do there, even if all you want to do is relax.
2. Caixa Forum – If you are a fan of art, then you will no doubt be visiting the famous Prado Museum and Reino Sofia, but if you'd also like to check out some more toned down museums, consider the Caixa Forum first. This post-modern art gallery features some excellent works that will blow your mind with their post-modern flare. The building itself will pop out at you with its strange and intriguing architecture.
3. La casa encendida – If the Caixa Forum didn't give you enough, you may want to look up la casa encendida, another interesting and little known art museum which supports local unknown artists. Both museums are free to the public so the trip will be a fun one for you and your wallet. The website for la casa is lacasaencendida.es . Click English at the top left to see the website in English.
4. La Latino – On Sunday nights, the barrios plazas are packed with the youth of Madrid making a street party (called a bottelon). Musicians begin jam sessions out of the blue as people have a good time late into the night. Enjoy exploring these barrios bars, which offer amazing tapas food and great Spanish beer. Any night of the week it can be fun, but Sunday nights are especially crazy.
5. Plaza Santa Ana - This great plaza is full of great restaurants to sample during your stay in Madrid. The food is excellent and there are often events there. It is a place where real people of Madrid come to eat every day, so if you want to experience modern Spanish life, check it out.
6. Templo de Debod – This Egyptian temple was actually removed from where it was built in the 4th century and taken to Madrid in 1971. It is an excellent place to relax, eat some street vendor food, and let the day get away from you. Only a few blocks from the Royal Palace, it may be a good spot for you to just rest and enjoy being in Madrid.
7. Calle Malasaña – Calle means “street” in Spanish and this street is a location in itself. Famous for its bars and dance clubs, this is a place you will want to visit if you're into serious partying. The clubs don't actually start rolling until about 1 AM, so keep that in mind when making plans. In Madrid, everything is a little later than you may be used to, but it is well worth the wait.
8. Atocha Train Station – This famous train station is noteworthy because the interior is full of life! I don't mean passengers walking around, but a small ecosystem of plants and animals in the center of the station. Using the natural greenhouse effect of the large open station, designer decided to put a larger garden in the center of the huge room. This is a great place to visit even if you don't have any train to catch, and perhaps especially so because you will be able to enjoy the garden as long as you'd like.
9. Caso de Campo – Known as one of the largest parks in the world at 6.6 sq miles, this amazing park is something that you may want to visit because of its great Madrid Zoo and other fun activities. There are few things more fun than a good zoo and it isn't always something visitors think of going to. Take a relaxing walk through the zoo enjoying the wildlife and then exit and explore the rest of the park. Literally a whole day could be spend enjoying the famous green space.
10. Explore the city – You're on vacation, so get out and walk around! The great thing about an old city like Madrid is every nook and cranny is stuffed with things to do and see. Just walk around, stop at interesting looking shops and cafes, and take all of the architecture in. As a city noted for its excellent architecture, Madrid will offer a lot for you to gaze at as you explore.
Madrid is an amazing place to vacation and there are so many things to do that you can easily avoid those crowded touristy spots and enjoy the real Madrid the way you should.

Deputies of Bishkek city administration ask citizens to not fall for provocations of destructive forces
AHN News Staff
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (AHN) – Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Anselmi announced on Tuesday that Toronto will host the 2010 Major League Soccer Championship Cup on Nov. 21. The sport event will be held at the BMO Field, which was venue in 2007 for the FIFA U-20 World Cup. However, there is the potential threat of bad weather. BMO can accommodate up to 21,700 fans. New stands will be added to increase the audience capacity to 21,800. Natural grass will also be grown to replace the artificial turf. Installation of grass was a condition for Toronto’s hosting of the championship game because the weather condition on late November could get cold and wet and it would be easier to hold the games on grass than on turf. MLS Commissioner Don Garber said the capital city of Ontario is the perfect host for the games because Toronto residents love the sport and hosting large events. Toronto beat New York, Los Angeles and Philadelphia to win the bid to host the MLS Championship Cup. It is the first time the event will be held outside the U.S. In 2009, Real Salt Lake won the cup over Los Angeles at the Qwest Field in Seattle.

The debate over offering £100 million for the transfer on a single player has caused consternation among people within and outside the football world. No football player, no matter how much of a super star he may be, is possibly worth that, are they? The player at the centre of the bid was Brazilian Kaka, 2007 world footballer of the year and recognized as one of, if not the best player on the planet. He has turned down the offer stating that in life money isn't everything. Manchester City was the club offering this amount to AC Milan to secure the services of Kaka. Manchester City is owned by the Abu Dhabi Group which is owned by one of the richest men in the world, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The dream of the group is to make Manchester City the greatest football club in the world; at any cost it seems.
What does this mean to the parties involved?
Manchester City
City's owners can afford it. They have identified a number of players they wish to buy and have allocated over £200 million to buy them. There list is pretty much a who's who of football talent. Kaka however, is at the very top of their list at the moment. They feel their offer was too good to refuse. They did not however offer enough for the player apart from the money.
AC Milan
Milan's owner,Silvio Berlusconi, who doesn't lack funds himself, was prepared to take the vast sum that was offered. This amount would have kept AC Milan running self sufficiently and allow them to re-invest in their red and black brand. However they allowed the decision to leave to rest with the player.
Kaka
The player in question has little need for more money either. He wants to win titles. The highest on his list would be the world cup with Brazil. If he moved to Manchester City, he would have miss out on playing Champions League football again next season. This could have harmed his chances of the Brazil team being built around him in South Africa in 2010.
The Premier League
The English top flight is marketed as the best in the world. More people watch the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea each week than any other clubs. The Premier League has done nothing to curb investment into clubs by rich owners so far. However, this bid could spell the end to the romance of the English game. The fans in England are becoming more and more distanced from the clubs they support. The vast sums the players are being paid and the increasing costs to watch games, the supporters can no longer identify with the players who drive a Ferrari and own multiple estates. This could make the Premier League take notice if attendances drop and their coffers begin to dwindle as the fans become more disillusioned.
Football in General
There once was a time when a football club would find, develop and contract players from the local area. This gave the club a solid place in the community and on a Saturday afternoon somewhere they could go to support their community. Recently the clubs find junior players with potential and relocate them to the club to develop them. Manchester City was an example of a club with a very good youth system. It produced many good young English players such as Micah Richards. With the new ownership, and the focus on results as soon as possible, the club has openly stated that they would scale back their youth system. If this continues with more big clubs continue to follow this short term model of success, there could be a dramatic drop in the number of new talents coming through. This in the end will spell the end to the popularity of game. Because, if there is no new players coming through, then how can the game improve and move forward? All the players will become mercenaries (some say they are already), moving from club to club for a pay package. If this is the case, clubs could take the look of the “franchises” in the USA. In this model, you see “franchises” move city because it is more financially viable, or a new owner buys the team to move it to his or her home town. I am not sure if this would be acceptable for FIFA, world football's governing body, to manage and control. If FIFA is non-existent in the governance of football, the game itself could become unrecognizable to what it is today.
What is the Solution?
There is no easy answer. There are too many people interested in watching football to not make it a major draw card for TV stations and sponsors to want to invest in it. People see owning a football club as a profitable venture. There is no way to stop people investing money into profitable businesses. Top players at a club generate more TV coverage, more sponsors and more merchandise sales; so there is financial justification to paying big money to have these stars in your team.
The European governing body of football, UEFA, have suggested the introduction of salary caps, or limits to the amount of foreign players, or quotas of players in the team who have come through the club's youth system. All of these seem like good solutions; however the leagues in Europe are on the same level. The English Premier League is head and shoulders above the other leagues in Europe in terms of revenue. La Liga in Spain and Serie A in Italy are that much ahead again of France and Germany's leagues. When you get to the smaller European leagues, where even £50,000 for a player is a completely unrealistic purchase, then a salary cap of £200 million doesn't really make sense. Then consider the implications of the European laws, where European Citizens are able to live and work anywhere in the European Union without obstacle. If a player is not able to complete a transfer for their market value because of these restrictions; this would mean the UEFA proposals are unconstitutional.
So what is the answer? Ignore or change European Law? I feel it is quite the opposite. Football is a business, therefore you need to put the same checks and balances in place that you have in business. It is illegal to create a monopoly. If Manchester City's business plan is to create a monopoly by buying all the talent that is out there and then winning the Premier League and Champions League every year, then it is not legal. Therefore, the EU can step in. The Premier League and the Champions League are also obliged to step in. They own the brands which generate the most money, they can decide who that money goes to. It is also unethical to run a publicly owned company at a loss deliberately. This must prevent such outrageous transfer fees being offered. Unless it is able to be proven how the investment is going to make the club profitable. If it isn't then it must be questioned and the law taken into consideration.
What has to happen is the passion of talking about football is taken out of the equation. The EU, UEFA, representatives from all the leagues in Europe and The Champion's League, all need to get together with top business lawyers and put together an agreed set of guideline for football business practice for good of the game, and their own livelihoods. It will take a long time, but if the game wants to survive as a competitive and viable sport and business, it must invest the time and effort to set these guidelines now, not when the fans have left the game.

Acer Aspire 8940G 46 kaufen
While it is not the Apple MacBook Air at 13.3″ this is one of Apple's more portable notebooks. It uses the Intel's new Penryn, and is primarily designed just for portability. I have my hands on one and I'm going to let you know what it's loaded with as well as who will get the most out of this little notebook. Let me start with the basics.
Hardware:
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3 MB shared L2 Cache (Penryn)
RAM: 2GB (SDRAM DDR2)
Storage: 250GB Hard drive
Optical Drive: CD R/RW with integrated DVD +/- Dual layer Drive
Video Card: Integrated Intel X3100 graphics card (using 144MB of system RAM as video memory)
As I mentioned this MacBook was designed for portability and it is very compact. It is very light and it gets great battery life at around 4 hours on a charge. I attribute this largely to the utilization of the “penryn” processor. While it isn't as strong it does offer great battery life. It also stays fairly cool, so you'll be able to drop it down into sleep mode and keep it in your bag without being concerned with overheating.
The screen on this MacBook is average. It runs at a resolution of 1280 x 800 which is pretty standard for a laptop. If you used to Apple's “above and beyond” displays then you might be a little disappointed. The screen also tends to wash out in direct sunlight a little quicker than I would like. Other than that it does fine. I like the 2GB of RAM especially since it has to share with the integrated video card.
Connectivity:
Bluetooth (to sync with other Bluetooth compatible devices)
1 FireWire (to be used to transfer video from your digital camcorder for example)
2 USB 2.0 ports (these can be used to connect things like your printer, iPod, or digital camera)
1 DVI output (to connect to some TV's or Monitors)
1 VGA output (to connect to your standard monitor)
1 S-video output (you can use this to connect to some TV's but it will be used for projectors for the most part)
1 composite video output (requires adapters, sold separately)
It has a great selection of connectivity options I particularly like the composite video options. All of the outputs are on the left side which works well for the right handed mouse user, not so great for the left handed mouse user (but who does that anyway). I would like to also see an additional USB port.
In the end this is a great option for the mobile user. It isn't going to run graphically intensive games or going to render any advanced 3d graphics. It would be great for the office or student looking to get a lot of mobile work done with the excellent battery life. However in the end unless you're a diehard Apple user I think for the money I would turn to another manufacturer for what this notebook offers.

When celebrities find a niche to exploit, you can expect about a bazillion imitators. Once a format starts raking in cash, it is immediately subjected to a celebrity feeding frenzy. Similar to Rosie O'Donell at the buffet, or a shark feeding, whichever is least disturbing to you, gentle reader, these celebrities will vociferously pursue any avenue of egress into newly discovered popular formats.
The first media milestones involved things like the advent of the written word, that wonderful medium of communication that has seen such a renaissance with the arrival of the internet on the world stage made it cool to be literate, as well as the invention of the printing press. The printing press led to widespread distribution of text, allowing for the explosion of newspaper distribution, a trend that even today is a strong market force. Along with newspapers came near instantaneous communication of important events and people. Including performers of all types, the celebrities of their day.
Once the idea of newspapers became a common staple in the civilized world, another significant first came about; The very first superstars. Celebrities so popular and well known they were glorified on neighboring continents in a world where intercontinental travel took weeks and months, traveling via sailing vessel in a dangerous world of uncertain weather and freebooting buccaneers, privateers and pirates. The global shift towards widespread fame and global notoriety for celebrities was all but a certainty at this point, all due to the widespread adoption of a new medium.
Today's hot format is both the the most and the least original, in the form of reality programming. Original because every moment is unscripted, unoriginal because it literally is the oldest concept ever: A day to day diary. And that is what reality television like Victoria Beckham: Coming To America really is. A day to day video diary, no different than the messy, childish scrawl founfd in a young girl's diary, secured with a small key on a ribbon, hidden away from prying eyes.
But, in the case of Victoria Beckham and every other celebrity, the diary isn't locked and hidden away in some secret place know only to young girls and their teenage dreams and wishes. Celebrities like Victoria Beckham direct, produce and edit the diary for national syndicated television, with appropriately placed ads. And the public watches, fascinated with the process of putting every last moment of Victoria Beckham's life on television, for better or worse. Usually worse. In every reality show ever aired, the worst behavior usually gets the most press, regardless of how outlandish and ridiculous it is.
Victoria Beckham is a celebrity exploiting the latest format; The reality show. One more reality show, especially with Victoria Beckham, can't be that bad. It would have to be an improvement over half the drek on television, such as that show with that guy, and the beautiful young doctor show where they never lose a patient until sweeps week. Maura Tierney should get a reality show. That would be a celebrity worth watching. Victoria Beckham; Who knows?

Continuing on her quest to take over the world with her line, Victoria Beckham has traveled to Moscow to shill her high-class wares. She has been surprisingly successful, particularly for a celebrity designer. Perhaps it’s her ability to speak the fashion language like any other designer. As noted by the editors and retailers who attended of her NY presentation in February, “As has become Beckham’s style over the last three seasons, she narrated as the models glided out in her dresses, discussing fabrics, color, cut, and construction. She sounded like such a pro, you almost forgot that she was once a pop superstar.” In addition to her ease in speaking the language, her designs are sleek and classic and prove that this foray into fashion is more than a mere dalliance on a whim.
I love these 3, and they honestly look comfortable. I believe that Victoria wore the last dress to the Oscars, and the dress she is wearing in the first photo is one of her own designs, as well.

Novelist Martin Amis observed that many writers endure a double death: ‘once when the body dies, and once when the talent dies’. This is doubly powerful when applied to sports stars where the talent dies, not over the course of an underwhelming novel, but in the instant of a snapped bone or sucker punch.
So it is perhaps not a surprise that when Britain’s most famous sportsman tore his Achilles tendon this week, ending his World Cup hopes, the result was a bit of high drama. David Beckham cried, Fabio Capello roared and England’s chances of football glory were dealt a significant blow. The tragedy of England’s most capped outfield player, having returned from exile in the badlands of American Major League Soccer (MLS), only to see his hopes of a last hurrah on the world stage dashed so close to the tournament seems impossibly cruel. The poetic symbolism of the injury – so neatly summarising the fine line between invincibility and failure which defines sport – hasn’t helped. The poet laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, even commemorated it in a mock-heroic ode. This may have gained Duffy some popular attention, but only in the context of making poetry’s attempts at relevance look silly, and only succeeded in invoking Pyrrhus rather than the son of Peleus.
Duffy was right about one thing, however, in her allusion to myth. This nearly happened to Beckham before, of course, when a broken metatarsal almost kept him out of the 2002 World Cup. Then, Becks really was at the height of his considerable powers, pretty much single-handedly dragging an average team into the finals with his majestic performance in the draw against Greece. Since then it’s been a tale of decline: two poor tournaments at Euro 2004 and the World Cup in 2006, matched by patchy performances at Real Madrid. His move into MLS marked a natural fizzling out of a reasonably successful sporting career, and the next stage in a phenomenally successful celebrity one.
There was always more to Becks than might be expected of such a pretty boy. For all the talk of ‘Brand Beckham’ – the Brylcreem boy who exploded onto the scene with THAT goal from the halfway line against Wimbledon, wearing sarongs and taking Posh Spice up the Arsenal – Goldenballs always had an unusual amount of tenacity for someone who was supposed to be a flair midfielder; an inner steel and sheer hunger for the game seemingly at odds with his showbiz lifestyle. His last-minute goal aside, what really stood out in his performance against Greece was his workrate, covering 10 miles as he threw himself into every tackle and header. In 2006, it wasn’t the image of him tearfully limping off the pitch in what seemed to be his last-ever England match which stuck in the memory, but of him throwing up on the pitch in sheer exhaustion.
His much-vaunted comeback, now thwarted, has been built on that tenacity. But it is also based on the stark fact that none of his younger rivals are good enough. Aaron Lennon, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Theo Walcott and David Bentley have all shown moments of promise, but have been consistently inconsistent or persistently injured. Everyone knows that for England, Beckham is now a squad player not a first choice: in fact, given his recent struggling performances for AC Milan, there was no guarantee he would even get picked for the World Cup at all. He was there out of experience, his ability to take the odd good free-kick and corner and the respect he commands in the squad: which sounds alright for your mate in Sunday league football, but Becks is hardly Zinedine Zidane. Achilles, you may remember, gained notoriety for dragging the carcass of his vanquished foe Hector around in the dust (by his heels, coincidentally) outside Troy, revelling in his victory. Now, apparently, Capello wants to drag the broken body of Becks round Johannesburg as a ‘team mascot’.
So why has Beckham’s injury been met with such interest? Matthew Syed, writing in The Times, seemed to put his finger on it in his sporting obituary of Becks. He wasn’t just a talented footballer, but New Labour personified. Exploding onto the scene as a young pretender in 1996, Beckham seemed to symbolise Cool Britannia: he was fashionable; he played in the Premier League (not the ugly, hooligan-led game apparently played and watched by racist, working-class hooligans, but the new shiny, sanitised, prawn-sandwich version); he was prepared to shed a tear or two in public and, as he became a proud husband and father, became a perfect role model for ‘broken Britain’. Above all else, he was cosmopolitan: in 2003 he was called Britain’s most famous black man by a Channel 4 documentary-maker and in 2004 posed for gay men’s magazine Attitude. He was Our David. When London made its final push for the Olympics in 2005, it was little surprise that the two ambassadors it turned to were Tony & Dave.
It seems fitting, then, that in 2010 we are witnessing the disintegration of Beckham’s body and what ever existed of New Labour’s soul. Both have always been obsessed with how they look; both have always wanted to appeal to all of the people all of the time, and both were only ever still in the running because their successors are too inept, incompetent and spineless to rise to the challenge. There the differences end: not even renowned pig-fancier Rebecca Loos (Beckham’s former mistress) would be able to caress some life into the Brown government by now. The tears for Beckham are understandable: he’s just been deprived of his last shot at the big-time. But the real tears should be shed at the thought that while Becks is finished, we might not have seen the last of New Labour yet.

This winter many couples are choosing do it yourself wedding photography in an attempt to save money. Wedding photography is tricky because if not done right there will be no good documentation of the special day. My dad does wedding photography as an amateur hobby; wedding photography is not skill less, but can be done easily with practice by almost any amateur photographer. This article will take a look at 10 tips to make DIY winter wedding photography successful; however keep in mind DIY wedding photography takes copious amounts of editing after the ceremony.
1. Camera
Taking wedding photographs should be done with the right camera, not a regular point and shoot camera. I recommend using the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi, it takes high quality pictures and is relatively easy to use. This camera can be found at www.buy.com for $569.95, but you should check to see if anyone in the wedding party can provide this camera or a similar model to save on money.
2. Flash
Relying on the built in pop up flash in any camera is a recipe for failure; you will want to use an external flash for low lighting pictures, such as a church or an evening reception. Winter conditions outside will not require a flash due to the reflection of the snow, but it can be used if done right; however inside you will want a powerful flash. I cannot give a recommendation because certain flashes work for different cameras; therefore the flash will be determined by your digital camera choice. www.ritzcamera.com has a good variety of flashes, lenses, and cameras.
3. Lenses
Unfortunately DIY picture taking is not cheap and requires the proper zoom lenses for great photos from anywhere in the room. Buying any secondary lenses is not necessary, but they will make the pictures better. www.ritzcamera.com has a good selection of lenses; it is where I purchased mine.
4. Go Digital
The hardest part of DIY wedding photography is getting professional looking shots. Going digital allows for touchups on the pictures after they are taken so that they come out perfect. Going digital also saves on prints since all the photos can be saved on a flash drive or a CD.
5. Choose an artistic guest for the job
Capturing the right moment is what photography is all about; having a guest that is willing to take pictures who has an artistic eye is the best way to get quality shots. Do not expect a gift from the photographer as it takes hours of work to take and edit great shots.
6. Be aware of lighting conditions
Winter is the hardest time of the year to take photographs outside due to the reflective nature of snow and the brightness of the sun. Be creative on the angles of your photographs; many high end cameras also show the contrast ratio on the photos taken, look at the contrast to make sure the photos are coming out correctly.
7. Be aware of where the sun is
Do not shoot towards the sun or objects that are in the sun, it can cause shadows and some funky looking pictures. Just be aware of the sun and preview one or two pictures before taking more.
8. Capture photos with the theme
If your theme is a winter wonderland then capture that theme in the photos! Try to include shots of the bridal party and newlyweds in the natural theme of the wedding; also try to include guests in the same theme. Be creative with the shots, you may have to shoot at different angles to get the desired results.
9. Use the flash
Even in snowy conditions you should experiment with the flash for better pictures, the bright the background the more the object you are photographing will stand out. This may not always be the case; therefore you should check the pictures being taken to make sure they are coming out professionally.
10. Edit, Edit, Edit
No DIY photography is complete up completion of the ceremony! There are countless hours of editing that must be taken on to get professional looking results. If you do not have the proper computer skills try to find a guest that would be willing to help edit in exchange for their wedding present.
This site has some extra DIY tips that can help during a winter wedding; I did not cover many these tips, so it may be a good read: http://www.squidoo.com/weddingphotographyguide

A top of the line Toshiba gaming and multimedia powerhouse can be yours in the Satellite X205-SLi6 with plenty behind the hood to run all the current games.
Ease of Use, Performance: 20/25, Look & Feel: 18/25,
Features 24/25, How much I enjoy 23/25
Total: 85/100
The Toshiba Satellite X205-SLi6 has a lot going for it and plenty of horsepower, or Intel and NVIDIA power, to run all the current PC games at really good frame rates. The model I am reviewing is a really packed model with all the little extras that add to the price and enjoyment of a multimedia powerhouse.
The main ingredients for the X205-SLi6 are an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 processor running at 2.5 GHz, two NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT 512 MB Ram graphics cards running in SLI mode, two 200 GB 7200 RPM Toshiba SATA hard drives, and a DVD Supermulti optical drive with Labelflash print ability. The model I received also came with an external TV Tuner and remote control with external sensor for a complete multimedia experience.
To say that this model is a desktop replacement is about correct and in size alone it does take up a bit of room but it would with all it contains. The notebook has a 17″ widescreen display and has a full keyboard with number pad for ease of use in everyday typing and internet work. The notebook when closed is about 2 inches tall and your usual 11 inch by 16 inch size, no larger than any other 17 inch widescreen laptop but a bit thicker.
The notebook weighs about 10 pounds and the power adapter weighs in at a whopping 2 pounds, it is literally the size of a brick. I was very surprised when I unpacked the power adapter and it measured 6 and a half inches long, 3 and a quarter inches wide and two inches tall. The power adapter as well as the laptop get very warm when using as well, I checked out some temperature readings and saw some pretty high ones.
The power adapter gets about 42 degrees Celsius or 107 degrees Fahrenheit and the computer has a few spots near the vents that are about this same temperature. Internally the core and other temperatures run about normal for a dual core processor and the other components so the heat is not a worry, just a caution more for what you set the laptop on. I would be careful about the surface the laptop sits on and be sure to not set the power adapter on a bed or other soft surface, it does get quite warm.
The computer comes complete with Windows Vista Ultimate with all the goodies like Media Center and several free and useful programs from Toshiba. There is the usual group of trial software from Microsoft and Toshiba as well as some that Toshiba is in partnership with like Norton and Memeo.
The Toshiba Laptop does come with a few programs that you don't have to pay for like the Toshiba DVD Player and ULead MovieFactory that work pretty good. The ULead MovieFactory is one of their standard edition programs that you get with products and is pretty basic but fully functional. I have been using several programs from ULead recently and have been pretty happy with them for the most part but in order to get a really good video or movie editor you need to get a deluxe version and not the general or standard ones.
The Satellite X205-SLi6 comes with a lot of hardware for the cost of about $2500 and you do get plenty for your money. The model I have comes with the dual graphics cards set up in NVIDIA SLI mode so you have both cards for your gaming graphics. You also have the dual disk drives for plenty of onboard storage and the little extras like the TV tuner are really nice.
The TV tuner works perfectly with Windows Media Center and the included remote control is a nice bonus even if it does have the external remote sensor. The TV tuner picks up all the channels I get in my area clearly and watching television as well as movies on the X205-SLi6 was great.
Gaming was also nice and the dual graphics cards do a great job with frame rates in current games like Unreal Tournament 2007 and Frontlines: Fuel of War. I tried out some frame rate tests and saw some good results with the graphics cards and had no problem playing some games at very high and high quality.
I also tested the laptop and compared the results with desktop and laptops using benchmark tests from Futuremark like PCMark05, 3DMark 06 and Vantage and saw some great results as well. The Benchmark tests showed a really decent computer that ran all the gaming and multimedia tests with good scores and the laptop compares favorably with other systems running some better components.
Benchmark scores are a way to test computers side by side and see what they would do in certain categories and give a way to test them using a measurable score. Many of the tests were very close to my other two desktop computers with similar video card setups. The processor and communication scores were higher on the Toshiba X205-SLi6 than my two current desktop systems while other scores like graphics are lower due to my current top of the video cards.
These benchmark scores are one way to see how a computer will perform for you when you take it home while another is to measure frame rates while playing video games. A video game uses the video card, processor and memory intensively while playing some games and the frame rates or how many times your computer will draw each page on the screen that you see per second shows how fast the combined computer components are working together.
Some games play very well at lower frame rates and others will not play well and have stuttering and other problems that take away from the enjoyment of your gaming. Two such games that play just fine at lower frame rates are Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and Microsoft Flight Sim X. Call of Duty 4 will be playable and enjoyable at frame rates as low as 20 while Flight Sim X is a system intensive game as it draws the entire world for any game play and plays just fine at ten frames per second.
I saw frame rates of 38 to 50 frame per second while playing Company of Heroes on a mixed quality setting and could even get the frame rates as high as 150 fps at low quality settings. Playing Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare I saw frame rates in the 20's with no anti-aliasing and with it at maximum quality. Turning the quality settings down did not do much to the frame rates and the game played just fine at the maximum settings and screen resolution.
Unreal Tournament 3 played very well and I saw very comparable frame rates to my desktop computers with a comparable card setup at about 30 to 50 frames per second. The game is very playable and did fine on maximum quality while playing both the single player against the computer as well as online multiplayer games. I also tried out Microsoft's Flight Sim X and saw some average frame rates for the processor and video cards and was able to fly very well at some medium quality settings.
Flight Sim X is one of the highest computer system intensive games and to max out the settings will not decrease a good systems frame rates much but it was really nice looking and played fairly well. At some medium settings for some of the different settings I found a happy medium and played the game with very good frame rates and enjoyed a few flights near Lake Mead and Hoover Dam.
All the games I played did play well and could run at the maximum settings but not all were playable or enjoyable. On Company of Heroes I did have to set the quality down some to enjoy the game, especially when a lot of action was going on. All the games were playable and enjoyable at some medium to higher settings and the Toshiba Laptop did a good job of playing them easily.
The Toshiba Satellite X205-SLi6 is not a high end laptop for gaming but it does play the most current games at decent frame rates with nice graphics quality. I also tried Frontlines: Fuel of War but did not record frame rates and had a fun time playing the online multiplayer game as well. The X205 SLi-6 had no problems with graphics or gaming on all the games I threw at it even with multiplayer online games using either the Cat5 cable connected internet or the wireless adapter.
Multimedia is another area that the Toshiba Laptop does very well and comes very complete for all your entertainment needs. The laptop comes with a very good DVD drive that plays not only the regular DVD movies but has the full multidisc feature of not having to worry about all those + and – signs when you purchase blank media for recording.
The Satellite x205-SLi6 comes with a Toshiba TV Tuner that connects to your USB with two USB cable connections for power to the unit as well as connectivity. This means no external power for the TV Tuner at all to keep the number of power connections down to the one power adapter. The remote with its external sensor also connects to your USB connection and works well for all your multimedia needs through Windows Media Center.
Movies and music played well and that brings me to the Harman Kardon speakers on the Toshiba Laptop which are very good for general listening but not outstanding. They will not replace a decent surround speaker setup but will do for portable gaming and multimedia listening enjoyment with a good bass as well as regular sound through the four speakers.
The set of multimedia buttons along the top of the keyboard area also add to the laptops multimedia features and rounds out a very nice laptop full of features. If you really want to brag about some features how about not only VGA out but HDMI out for connecting a monitor and speaker setup to your Toshiba laptop for a full and rich multimedia experience on a bigger and separate screen.
The HDMI out works well and is easily one of the most current features of the laptop that is going to be a must have feature of laptops just like the VGA connection has been for years now.
Connecting an HDMI capable screen to the laptop means not only the one cable with exceptional video and audio but it keeps things simple for moving the laptop as a desktop replacement.
The Toshiba laptop comes with a fingerprint reader and a web camera as well as the software to run these additional features and both work very well. All the features of the Toshiba laptop are great but of course you are paying for them in the base cost of this model.
The Toshiba X205-SLi6 is an overall nice desktop replacement computer even if Toshiba doesn't advertise it as one; it does a great job for a desktop and laptop computer. You have all kinds of nice features and specifications that make a good computer that much better.
The Bluetooth and wireless connectivity ease the cable crunch and add internet and Bluetooth connection so you don't have to have all kinds of cabling running to your computer that you don't need. You also have plenty of connection options when you do want to connect things with four USB connections on one side and two more on the other, a modem connection, an i Link connection, 5 in 1 card reader and four audio connections.
There are plenty of options and connections on the Toshiba Satellite X205-SLi6 that you will be hard pressed to use them all and they give you plenty of options without having to worry about future upgrading. The Satellite X205-SLi6 laptop is a nice and feature packed desktop replacement that can handle a large range of computer functions and would make a nice portable gaming and multimedia laptop or a desktop replacement.
Overall the Satellite X205-SLi6 is a nice and full featured laptop computer with plenty of features. It does weigh a lot and is about the largest laptop I have reviewed but it has a lot inside to warrant the size and weight. Check out all the features on the Toshiba Satellite X205-Sli6 and the various configurations you can purchase at the Toshiba website.

After owning 3 different kinds of laptop computers over the last 8 years I have to say that the most aggravating part of owning one is the battery and battery charging system. One of them has gone through 3 batteries so far. Another one, the jack inside the laptop where the power supply connects to is intermittent. It is intermittent to the point of not being able to be used to charge the battery unless the cord is held in place by hand. I wish there was a better way to handle battery charging.
After a frustrating morning of holding a cable in place to charge a laptop up while trying to type – I gave up for the day with that laptop. I then did a search for an external laptop battery charger on the web. I figured that there must be something out there by now. Here is what I found:
There are a few companies that make external laptop battery chargers. These are the types of chargers that you take the battery out of your laptop and connect it to a charger without using your laptop computer at all to charge the battery. This is the type of thing I was looking for. The prices range from several hundreds of dollars to under $70. I did a search on buy.com and shopping.com but did not find a really good price, even eBay had some pricey chargers. The best price I found was from one of the manufacturers themselves at jcbarn.com They had the battery charger at a price that I found reasonable at $65 They have a very wide range of external battery chargers for all different brands of laptop computers.
What I plan on doing is going completely wireless with my laptops. I'll buy another battery for each of them and external battery chargers to match. That way I'll be using a battery while one is charging then I can swap them out as needed. I sincerely hope that it will solve my laptop battery problems.

My favorite Fussball-Trikot: Simon Rolfes Trikots kaufen
This past weekend in the Bundesliga didn't see much of a change to the table, with Bayer Leverkusen drawing with Werder Bremen and FC Bayern München drawing against SC Freiburg. On a brighter note, Hertha BSC were able to finally pick up their second win of the season, and they did it in dramatic fashion.
FC Nürnberg 1 – 1 FC Bayern München
While Bayern has been the truly in-form Bundesliga team this season, the match at the weekend was a frighteningly dreadful display. 17th Place FC Nürnberg welcome the German Giants to the EasyCredit-Stadion, and it was almost a foregone conclusion of who would walk away victorious. The old cliche always says that football matches are never won on paper.
The first 15 minutes of the game seemed to be nothing but fouls and free kicks, and not much action occurred until the 15th minute when Mario Gomez took a shot from the center of the box, only to have it blocked. It looked then as if the game might be up and running. Not to be. The next 15 minutes were again a display of fouls and free kicks, but this 15 minutes had a bunch of corner kicks thrown in to spice it up a bit.
The 30th minute saw another chance for Bayern to go ahead with a shot from Arjen Robben just outside the box, but he missed it barely missed on the left side. The game remained 0-0 through the first half hour.
The game began to take shape in the 38th when Mario Gomez sent in a nice cross to Thomas Müller, who knocked it in from the center of the box to the top corner. FC Bayern were ahead 1-0. Just a few moments later, and it looked as if they would make it 2-0 when Philipp Lahm tried a through ball to Mario Gomez, but Gomez was caught just a touch offside.
The 45th Minute saw Bayern take two more chances to no avail. Arjen Robben attempted a shot from the center of the box, and Ivica Olic took a cross from Robben just seconds later. Robben's shot was blocked, and Olic knocked it wide left. Halftime, and the score was FC Bayern München 1, FC Nürnberg 0.
The second half started and we saw substitutions from both sides. FC Bayern München brought in Hamit Altintop to replace Arjen Robben, and FC Nürnberg brought in Ercic Maxim Choupo-Moting to replace Angelos Charisteas.
Again, the display of Fouls and free kicks abounded, but in the 54th Minute, FC Nürnberg equalized with a very close range shot into the bottom corner from Ilkay Gundogen. The game was now 1-1, and could go either way.
The 56th looked to see Bayern go ahead with a nice header from Bastian Schweinsteiger, but it was saved at the bottom right corner. Thomas Müller had another shot in the 65th, but he knocked it too high and the game remained level.
A blocked shot from Bastian Schweinsteiger in the 69th led to a couple of substitutions again from both sides. Bayern brought in Miroslav Klose for Ivica Olic, and Nürnberg brought in Marcel Risse for Mike Frantz.
Bayern had a few more shots through the remainder of the game, but could not seem to put any of them away. The game ended up 1-1, but this as truly an example of a team giving away two points. FC Nürnberg didn't play that good of a game, but Bayern seemed to play that bad of one.
Attendance: 48,548
SC Freiburg 0 – 3 Hertha Berlin
Although it was more than likely one of the least watched games of the weekend, it is nice to be able to report that Hertha were able to pick up their second win of the season. Even though it came against a side struggling in the relegation battle as well, it was truly a must win for Hertha. Had they lost this game, there would be no mathematical way they could avoid relegation. So they live to fight another day!
From the start, Hertha looked like they were playing for all three points, and they put on perhaps their most impressive display of the season in the first half. The 28th Minute saw a nice shot from Raffael saved in the center of goal, but immediately, once the ball was back in play, Adrian Ramos brought it straight back in and put it away into the bottom right corner to open the scoring for Hertha.
Frieburg looked to strike next when Stefan Reisinger headed in a nice pass to Oliver Barth who headed it into goal, but Hertha Goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny pulled down a nice save in the top center of goal to keep the the Visitors up 1-0.
In the 35th Minute, we saw what was perhaps the play of the season for Hertha BSC. Adrian Ramos sent in a through ball to Cicero who crushed home a left-footed shot from the left side of the box, all the way into the top right corner. Hertha held a 2-0 halftime lead for the first time this season.
The second half began, and Freiburg looked to get back into the game with a Right-footed shot from Stefan Reisinger in the 48th, but Drobny saved it again to maintain their lead. Fouls were given up by both sides, and nothing came of it for the next few minutes.
In the 57th, Hertha put the game away when Cicero scored his second goal of the game with a shot from outside the box that was buried in the bottom right corner.
Attendance: 21,600
Hertha put it all on the table for this match, and hopefully this will give their season a very late kick-start.

I taken Pictures in the last weeks – please tell me your thoughts:

PLAYBOY Magazine has announced that it is cancelling its proposed photo spread “The Girls of the Intifada” that was to feature naked Palestinian lovelies from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The Los Angeles chapter of the B'nai B'rith had denounced the feature, saying that it justified terrorism and hate. The B'nai B'rith was tipped off about the feature by a PLAYBOY insider, who leaked a piece of doggerel that was going to be used to illustrate the photo spread:
We are the girls of the Intifada!
To all Jews we're definitely nada!
We'll yield not an inch of land
But there's one catch –
Only selfless Muslim martyrs
Shall colonize our snatch!
PLAYBOY editor-in-chief Philboyd Studge denied that the venerable magazine, which debuted in 1954 with a nude Marilyn Monroe as its “Sweetheart of the Month,” had any intention of making light of the tense situation in Israel with light-hearted verse.
“The reports that we intended to caption the photos with patently offensive, nay, anti-Semitic poetry are nonsense,” Studge said.
Hugh Hefner, the founder and nominal publisher of PLAYBOY, was unavailable for comment. His daughter, Christie Hefner, the president of Playboy Enterprises, issued a terse statement saying that she supported Studge and was sorry for any aspirations against Israel the feature might have caused. No criticism of Israel was intended.
Studge said that PLAYBOY never intended to entitle a proposed spread of girls from the Middle East as representing the Intifada. He believes that an internal trickster was responsible for the rumors.
“I tell you, it's not even decent doggerel, let alone poetry,” an irritated Studge complained. “The metonymy, is so meretricious…. How could anyone believe it was authentic PLAYBOY doggerel, ferkrissakes!”
Studge had been an editor at the New Yorker, were her oversaw the stories of a stable of writers including John Cheever, E.L. Doctorow and Kurt Vonnegut. He also briefly worked as an editor at Doubleday, where he was exhausted by epic editing sessions of William Safire's BrobdingnagianCivil War-themed historical novel Freedom. His exhaustion drove him back into the magazine biz.
Tapped as the fiction editor at PLAYBOY in the late '80s, Studge eventually was named editor-in-chief in 1999. Hired originally hired to bring “class” to a magazine more synonymous, during the Reagan Era, with ass, Studge has toiled to reclaim the cultural cache PLAYBOY Magazine had enjoyed in the 1960s, which it squandered a decade later, as part of the fallout from the mid-'70s Pubic Wars (not to be confused with the 17th Century “Beaver Wars” Century).
An anonymous source at the Playboy Building in Chicago said that Hugh Hefner's attempts to mediate the dust-up carried little water. The basic thrust of Hefner's attempt at negotiation, an offer to run a countervailing “Girls of the B'nai B'rith” was rejected out of hand as “preposterous.”
“Do you think the defamed want to be further defamed by the defamer,” the source said, characterizing the attitude of the Anti-Defamation League official who handled the imbroglio.
The Playboy Philosophy & The Western World
Liz Smith was the latest to address the controversy. A friend of Hugh Hefner's, she asked his opinion of the Middle Eastern situation during a general discussion of the publisher's own Playboy Philosophy in its sixth decade. It's Hefner's contention that his philosophy changed America, and thus the Western World. As he seeks new markets for PLAYBOY and its offshoots, the online Web Site and its cable programming, he has become a proselytizer for the worldwide benefits of the Playboy Philosophy loosening up the tigher-assed corners of the world.
Smith was careful to avoid any mention of the “Girls of the Intifada” ruckus, but the issue definite was addressed. Hef blamed the problems in the Middle East squarely on religion.
“One of the problems with organized religion is that it has always kept women in a second-class position,” the PLAYBOY publisher said. “They have been viewed as the daughters of Eve.”
Speaking as to how the puritanical Muslim countries have put into effect extraordinary means to control their sexuality of their women, Hefner said that they must realize that, “Sex is the driving force on the planet. We should embrace it, not see it as the enemy.
As for the rift between the Muslims and the Jews, he contends, “We're separated by our myths.”
Did Hef think he was going to heaven or hell when he died, seeing as that for the past 50-odd years, he has lived in his own version of heaven-on-earth.
“I've always felt I was on the side of the angels,” he concluded.
THE Goomeri Showgrounds were full to capacity on Saturday as the main day of the 71st annual show kicked off.
The main display in the pavilion was by far the photography section.
Goomeri Show secretary Nev Holden said, “The photography section this year is huge. It is the biggest it has ever been. The prime beef section has also been really popular with over 100 head of cattle”
The Goomeri Show had plenty on offer with horse events, show jumping, a championship dog show, pet parade, fire brigade demonstrations, a wearable art parade, a tug-of-war competition and fireworks just to name a few of the attractions.
“The exhibits in our ring events this year are really good,” Mr Holden said.
Angus Lane officially opened the Goomeri show at 2:30pm but the gates to the showgrounds opened at 8am for those wanting to get to the showgrounds early.
Mr Holden was expecting a big crowd on Saturday afternoon for most of the events and for the fireworks held at 7:30pm.

Review by Conrad J. Obregon
Although there are many different books on portrait photography, most of them are organized in a similar format. For example, explanations of lighting ratios are immediately preceded by descriptions of the roles of main lights, fill lights, hair lights and so forth. “FACES: Photography and the Art of Portraiture” takes a different approach.
The book opens with a short portfolio of modern-day portrait photographers, including Joyce Tenneson and Dan Winters, and is followed by a portfolio of historic portraits. The main part of the book consists of a number of two-page spreads each of which includes a portrait, a lighting diagram for most, and a narrative that points out something about the technique and content of each image. The images vary from those taken with elaborate indoor lighting set-ups to quick-catch street pictures, and use cameras from large format to point-and-shoot, and even “toy” cameras. The book ends with short essays on street shooting; preparation; modifying light; the art and craft of portraiture; and an appendix that talks about compositing a group picture, color versus black and white, histograms and lighting ratios. Many of the images have a grittiness to them that might please other viewers, but might not be to the subject’s liking.
One might expect that as one proceeded through the images, simpler concepts would be first introduced, with subsequent images building on these concepts, but the authors’ ideas seemed scattered about. I prefer a more organized approach to instruction so I was discomforted by this round-about presentation. It made it harder for the lessons to stick in my mind. On the other hand, many of the portraits were extraordinary and narratives often contained useful information.
I also found that although the authors may have thought they covered all the key concepts, they missed at least a few. For example, Biver shows portraits that use ambient light at a low level, combined with flash, and shot at a very slow shutter speed with a hand held camera. Experienced photographers should be able to figure out how to calculate all the settings. On the other hand, less experienced photographers, to whom much of the book seems to be addressed, would probably have a hard time figuring out how to duplicate the effect.
Placing the light modifiers section well after the images section means that, unless one has a very good memory, inexperienced users will have to reread the images section to benefit from the author’s pictures.
Occasionally I felt that some of the examples, although perhaps pleasantly quirky, were less successful as portraits. For example, there is a description of a complex group photograph that was so obviously a composite that it seemed to me that the description of the photographer’s efforts to make it look like it wasn’t a composite showed that he failed in his goal.
From a design point of view, I found it very difficult to read the captions on many of the illustrative photos because they were printed in yellow on a white page.
Portrait photography that is above the ordinary is difficult, and one way to learn to make extraordinary images is by looking at the work, and listening to the ideas, of a number of photographers. A photographer willing to spend the time may gain from this unorthodox presentation. However, I certainly would not recommend this volume as an aspiring portrait photographer’s introduction to the art.
Press Release:
Guilherme Junior, a Brazilian photographer, is the winner of the 2010 Sony World Photography Awards’ Campaign Award. The brief was for amateur photographers to enter a single image that captured the passion and the energy of football from the fans’ point of view – the highs, the lows, and the incredible lengths supporters will go to support their teams.
The winning image, entitled ‘Twisters’, shows the supporters of the Flamengo soccer team in Rio de Janeiro. Known as having the largest and warmest fan-base of all teams in Brazil, in December 2009 there was a charity game between former and current players of the team that attracted a 50,000 strong crowd to the stadium. The winning picture depicts the enthusiasm and joy of the supporters during their most successful year in the history of the club, having won the national championship earlier that year.
The winning image was taken on a Sony DSLR–A200 camera. The award is now in its second year and was won in 2009 by Pakistani photographer Sarah Ahmad for her photograph titled “The Love of the Game: a cook, a cleaner, a mother… and an attacking midfielder.”
Delly Carr, one of the world’s leading sports photographers, and chair of the judging panel commented: "This female fan epitomises football’s energy and passion. She is singled out from the rest of the crowd through her 'over-the-top' celebratory jump, and therefore as one with the team. She has channelled all her energy into that explosive reaction. Her face is pure joy."
On hearing the news, Guilherme Junior said: “My happiness at the moment I was told about this award was greater than I can describe. I cannot wait to tell my friends, teachers and mentors who always believed in my talent. I am grateful to the contest organizers and the World Photography Organisation for the opportunity to participate and for giving me this honour.”
“With the Campaign Award we were searching for an image that captures the magic and passion of the beautiful game from the fan’s perspective and have once again been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response received for this category,” said James Kennedy, Director of Brand Communications at Sony Europe. “This year’s winning image really conveys the true spirit and camaraderie of the cultural phenomenon that is football.”
In winning the award Guilherme will receive:
- Two tickets to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, sponsored by Sony (travel and accommodation included)
- Two VIP tickets to attend the Sony World Photography Awards gala ceremony in April 2010 in Cannes, France (including flights and two nights’ accommodation in a luxury hotel on the famous Croisette)
- The latest Sony DLSR camera and lens
- The opportunity to be one of the photographers used in the forthcoming digital imaging FY10 campaign work from Sony
A selection of shortlisted images entered to the competition, including the Guilherme’s winning shot, will be exhibited in Cannes, April 2010.
Further information about the Sony World Photography Awards can be found on the World Photography Awards website.
